A wave of serious allegations has rattled the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community following the reported arrest of Melqui Galvao on suspicion of offenses involving a minor.
Documentation reviewed by this outlet through the Brazilian legal database Jusbrasil.com.br points to a prison warrant issued by the Court of Justice of the State of São Paulo, specifically through its specialized court handling cases involving children and adolescents in the county of São Paulo. The alleged arrest warrant references three counts under Law 8.069/90, Brazil’s Child and Adolescent Statute, alongside Law 13.441/2017. Issued under the authority of the National Council of Justice (CNJ), the document directed law enforcement to seek police assistance if necessary to bring Galvao before the issuing judge.
The warrant was issued on 23rd of April.
The Civil Police of JundiaÃ, located in the state of São Paulo, are reportedly leading the investigation, with Galvao said to be in the custody of local authorities.
An audio recording purportedly featuring Galvao’s voice has surfaced online, shared by xfight.tv. The clip is described as a 30-second excerpt from a longer recording exceeding 10 minutes in length, believed to be part of the alleged case against him. In the audio, a male voice states:
“I understand, completely understood. I just want to make some things clear. I’m totally repressed, totally distressed.”
” Nothing can justify my behavior.”
“But I would also like to say that I never planned this. From the first day you came in until the last day you left, I never planned this. I never had these thoughts. (Redacted) is not guilty of anything. She is very young. ”
Later he adds: “She treated me in a way that no student treated me. This led me to believe that there was something.”
According to xfight.tv, the full recording spans approximately 12 minutes and contains content described as apologies, promises of change, attempts at reaching some form of agreement and references to deeply sensitive situations.
Calls have been circulating urging anyone with relevant information or personal accounts connected to the case to come forward and report to the appropriate authorities.
No public statement from Galvao or his legal representatives had been released at the time of publication.
