A prominent Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and gym owner was taken into custody in the early morning hours of April 21 in Fazenda Rio Grande, Brazil. Authorities say surveillance footage captured him physically assaulting his wife during a domestic dispute.
According to sources, the confrontation began when the woman expressed her intention to leave the residence with their daughter. In his statement to police, the instructor attempted to frame his wife’s behavior as erratic, saying, “She decided to leave home. I spoke with her father because she is atypical. She started being aggressive, I don’t know if she switched her medic ation.”
He claimed the situation escalated further after he returned home later that evening. “I got back at 11 pm and she was there,” he told authorities. “She came downstairs, started verbally abusing me. ‘I’m leaving and I’m taking the child.’ I said: ‘No.'”
Surveillance cameras inside the home, however, told a starkly different story. Footage allegedly shows the instructor approaching his wife while holding their daughter and slapping her across the face.
Subsequent recordings reportedly depict him forcing her against a wall and attempting to wrest the child away. In a later sequence, he is seen placing his wife in a chokehold and dragging her through the yard and garage area of the property, all while their daughter was present and watching.
Municipal Guard officer Alan Gione da Silva, who responded to the scene, said the instructor initially attempted to explain away his conduct.
“He spoke with us and informed us that his wife was having a breakdown and he needed to use force to restrain her,” Silva recounted.
That account unraveled once officers spoke directly with the woman. “In conversation with his wife, she reported that she had experienced aggression, and because of this, we took them both to the police station,” Silva added.
The Paraná Civil Police reported that the woman told investigators she had been physically attacked while trying to leave the house and indicated she had experienced asphyxiation with an object. Officers documented abrasions on her nose along with her complaints of pain in the neck and scalp. The instructor himself sustained an injury to his arm.
He was released the same day after paying bail of R$1,621. Authorities chose not to order preventive detention but imposed precautionary measures on him. The case remains under active investigation.
