The Manaus Civil Police have issued a formal statement regarding the arrest of a Jiu Jitsu black belt instructor on charges related to the production, storage and sharing of content involving minors (CSAM).
Authorities confirmed the investigation began through international cooperation with the Federal Police after technical leads linked illegal material to a dating application operating in Brazil. Investigators identified and located the suspect in the capital following digital tracing efforts.
During the press conference, police described how the individual, using the dating application, allegedly detailed acts involving a 14 year old adolescent, recorded the adolescent during those acts and shared the material.
“From that, the research team learned from technical leads that allowed them to identify and locate this individual here in the capital, the middle of this relationship application,”
A preventive detention order was issued and delivered alongside searches of the suspect’s residence and person. Several electronic devices were seized and sent for forensic analysis. The suspect, located in Cidade de Deus at the time of arrest, remained silent during questioning.
Officials clarified that while the suspect works as a Jiu Jitsu instructor teaching children and adolescents, the alleged conduct under investigation is not linked to his professional environment.
“This investigation, although it is investigated, it does not happen in the context of his profession. This material, found, was in his cell from the conversation that he had with another individual in a relationship application,”
Despite that clarification, authorities confirmed they are assessing whether additional individuals may have been affected due to his professional access to minors. Investigators are working to identify the adolescent involved and determine whether further protective action is required.
“Considering that during the investigation, it verified that he is a teacher of Jiu Jitsu, who worked with children and adolescents, the possibility of other potential targets, and that is why we are moving in this direction”
The police went on to urge potential targets to contact them.
The investigation remains ongoing with police focusing on identifying the adolescent, reviewing seized devices and determining whether additional lines of inquiry are necessary.
