The ongoing feud between Gordon Ryan and Craig Jones continues to escalate, with Ryan’s latest response coming directly after Jones revealed he had taken the step of hiding Ryan from his social media feed entirely.
Craig Jones recently appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show to promote the reopening of B Team headquarters at Zamaya Luxury Resort in Tulum, Mexico.
This announcement appears to have set Gordon Ryan off, leading to a scathing Instagram story that Jones later shared with his audience.
Taking to Instagram, Ryan unleashed a detailed criticism of Jones, writing:
“Crooked Craig, becoming a mediocre merchandise salesman while he tricks some guy into building him another gym that he yet again won’t be at and then will almost certainly eventually be exiled from after burning bridges with everyone there like usual is absolutely hilarious. Haha. Lost his competitions, his tournament, his teammates, his school, sells grappling merchandise like the Pakistani bros who email you about competitive pricing. Splendid ending.”
Â
Jones reposted Ryan’s story on his own Instagram, mocking him.
Additionally, Jones appears to be reaching a breaking point with the feud. During his appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Jones revealed that he had finally taken action.
“Incredible. There’s paragraph structure there. That is a new high for a Gordon Instagram story,” Jones said sarcastically. “I actually finally hid him. I’m trying to turn over a new leaf in my life now because I feel like anything he posts is just so bad, I can’t help myself. I respond.”
Rather than matching Ryan’s hostility, Jones shifted toward something resembling pity.
“For Gordon, I almost feel bad for him at this point. I feel like a bit of projection there. I don’t know if Gordon has any real friends. I don’t know what’s going on with that dude. He needs a hug or something.”
When pressed by Helwani on why Ryan struggles to maintain friendships, Jones stated that Ryan is someone whose personal issues extend far beyond the mats.
“I don’t know if he’s capable of having friends. I think that’s really why the gym fell apart under Danaher and stuff. He’s kind of an unlikable dude off the mats. Always causing problems. I don’t think people really like him. They kind of like tolerate him.”
Jones even pointed to Ryan’s own family as evidence: “His own brother left him. I don’t know what more to say about that.”
Ryan continued the back-and-forth by making another Instagram post, this time with the comments disabled. He reposted an old podcast clip in which Jones reacted to Ryan unfollowing members of the B Team circle, describing it at the time as “one of the biggest victories we’ve ever had.”
In the clip, Jones said, “Gordon Ryan actually unfollowed all of us on Instagram. I believe he waved the white flag.”
Ryan used the old footage to argue that the situation had since changed, claiming that several former B Team members have now unfollowed Jones instead.
He accompanied the repost with the caption: “Buddies gonna need an extra xan bar after seeing this.”
Despite the intensity of their public feud, both competitors have largely stepped away from active competition. Ryan has dealt with chronic stomach issues that have led to multiple retirements from the sport. Meanwhile, Jones has been focused on traveling the world and building his business ventures rather than competing.
With the new B Team facility in Mexico taking shape and plans for camps, competitions, and a grand opening targeted for September 17, Jones appears committed to moving forward with his business vision.
Despite the temptation to continue trading blows with Ryan, Jones seems determined to focus on construction rather than confrontation.
“I think he’s just mad about that,” Jones said, referring to the successful B Team relaunch. “I don’t know. It’s hard to get into the mind of a guy that I think should be cleaning high schools or something. He just happened to be gifted at jiu-jitsu.”
The saddest part in all this is that these two are tremendously talented and marketable in jiu jitsu yet they’re both focusing on other aspects of their life and very few up and comers are stepping into their shoes.
