A 51-year-old man long respected in the Monterey and San Benito County communities as both a spiritual leader and a martial arts instructor now faces some of the gravest charges the legal system can bring, after investigators say he spent years preying on children who trusted him.
According to sources, Emmanuel Marchica was taken into custody following a five-day investigation by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and is currently held on $17.5 million bail. Authorities allege he s3xually abused at least four children, with accounts of misconduct dating back as far as 2012.
At the time of his arrest, Marchica was serving as a pastor and delivering sermons at a community gathering center in the Hidden Valley Community of San Benito County. He also worked as a Jiu-Jitsu instructor, roles that put him in regular contact with children and families who had every reason to believe he was someone they could trust.
The case broke open on July 5, 2026, when the sheriff’s office received a tip about an ongoing situation involving the s3xual abuse of a child. Detectives moved swiftly, interviewing witnesses and uncovering a pattern far larger than initially reported.
“On July 5, 2026, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of allegations involving the ongoing s3xual abuse of a child. The case was immediately assigned to investigators, who conducted interviews with witnesses and quickly identified several additional v*ctims,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Marchica had built a broad presence across the region through multiple business ventures. He ran bakeries in Prunedale and Monterey, and operated gyms in Sand City, Seaside, and Prunedale, where he also offered physical therapy and massage therapy services. Investigators believe these various roles provided him repeated access to children and young people throughout the area over many years.
The felony charges he now faces reflect the scope and severity of what authorities uncovered, encompassing inappropriate s3xual contact, forced s3xual acts, and child m*lestation across what detectives describe as a pattern of behavior spanning more than a decade.
Officials believe others may have been harmed by Marchica and are urging anyone with relevant knowledge to come forward.
“Detectives believe there are additional victims who have not yet come forward and are urging anyone with information to contact investigators,” the sheriff’s office said.
