Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones showcased his grappling skills at the North American Grappling Association NAGA tournament during the Europa Games Expo in Phoenix a while ago. The impromptu participation delighted fans who were present for an autograph signing session with the MMA superstar.
Jones, who was at the expo representing his supplement sponsor GAT, found himself accepting challenges from enthusiastic MMA fans. “I thought hey, why not,” Jones shared on his Instagram account, detailing his encounters with a brown belt and a purple belt competitor.
The highlight of Jones’ appearance was captured on video, showing the elite fighter securing a victory with a guillotine submission. However, the day wasn’t without its surprises. In a heartwarming moment, Jones playfully competed against a young fan, allowing himself to be caught in an armbar. The former champion tapped out, granting the young competitor an unforgettable victory.
This unexpected participation in the NAGA tournament came during a period of temporary suspension from UFC competition for Jones. He was awaiting an arbitration hearing regarding a positive test for clomiphene and letrozole, which led to his withdrawal from UFC schedule.
This wasn’t the only time Jones competed in BJJ, he also took part in Chael Sonnen’s Submission Underground.

Jon Jones, widely regarded as the greatest of all time in mixed martial arts, may be nearing the end of his storied UFC career. Back in May of 2023, Jones hinted that his highly anticipated bout against Stipe Miocic could be his last.
Now, a possible retirement has been fueled by Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu star Gordon Ryan, who recently posted—and quickly edited—a social media update referencing Jones’ final UFC camp.
Ryan posted on instagram:
Ryan went on to quickly edit the caption:
Having held the UFC throne for over a decade, Jones’ potential exit would come after a victorious return to the octagon earlier this year, when he claimed the heavyweight title. Jones’ legacy is undeniable, and if the Miocic fight truly marks the end, he would leave the sport at the pinnacle of his career.
The two are expected to face each other at MSG in November.
