UFC Bantamweight champ Merab Dvalishvili doesn’t even drink coffee

UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili has revealed an unusual aspect of his training regimen – he avoids coffee entirely. In a recent appearance on The Simple Man podcast, Dvalishvili explained his reasoning for eschewing the popular caffeinated beverage.

“I don’t even drink coffee because it’s addictive,” Dvalishvili stated. “I see people like they wake up they have to drink coffee every day to couple times a day have to drink coffee. So let’s say I’m in a mountain if I don’t have a coffee like you I don’t want to be tired you know I don’t want to that’s my thing you know I don’t want to be addicted.”

The Georgian fighter said he made this decision after observing others’ dependence on coffee. “When I see they realize the people addicted and then I’m like no I don’t want to be addicted,” he explained.

Dvalishvili does make rare exceptions, noting “If I really don’t get asleep yesterday I drink because I was traveling whatever and uh I have some you know the one the ice coffee like Starbucks you know this.”

Instead of relying on coffee for energy, Dvalishvili focuses on proper nutrition and natural supplements before training. He mentioned using vegetable-based powders with beetroot for improved endurance.

UFC Bantamweight champ Merab Dvalishvili Discusses Semen Retention

The Georgian revealed that he abstains from s*xual activity for about a week before his fights as part of his preparation. “I stop like 7 days, yeah like 6 days or something because once I start like heavyweight cuts you know because I have to cut 20 lbs,” Dvalishvili explained.

When asked if it could help with weight cutting, Dvalishvili acknowledged it does burn some calories, but said recovery is more important in the final days before a bout. “Of course it helps but you need to recover you know,” he noted. “You need to usually it’s good but you gotta eat after the sex but I can’t eat you know.”

The champion elaborated that he begins his strict weight cut regimen about 6 days out from fight night, severely limiting food and water intake. By that point, he wants to avoid any activities that could impact his energy levels or recovery.

Dvalishvili’s disciplined approach extends beyond just semen retention. He also avoids coffee, alcohol, and other potential vices in his pursuit of peak performance.
