WATCH: BJJ Promotion Hosts Grappling-in-a-Suit Competition, Drawing Comparisons to John Wick

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu enthusiasts, prepare for a tournament that’s about to get all the publicity  – literally. Pit Boss Grappling (PBG) is introducing a viral competition format that has fans drawing comparisons to the high-stakes combat scenes from the John Wick franchise.

Founded by Jared Heyman of Rock Jiu-Jitsu in Castle Rock, Colorado, PBG is not your average grappling tournament. The organization is set to debut its groundbreaking “pit wall” concept, featuring 45-degree angled wall pads that promise to transform the competitive landscape.

“These pit walls are the future of our sport,” Heyman announced, explaining that the innovative design offers two key advantages: enhanced competitor safety and minimized referee interference. Translation for John Wick fans? It’s about to get intense.

But here’s where it gets even more interesting: PBG isn’t just about competition – it’s about community. $30 of each $50 registration will be returned directly to participating academies, ensuring that the sport continues to grow from the ground up.

The real showstopper, however, is the attire. Competitors ditch traditional gis and rash guards in favor of sharp suits. This decision not only amplifies the visual spectacle but also pushes athletes to adapt their techniques to the constraints of formal wear. Lapel grips suddenly take on a whole new meaning, and the absence of traditional grappling uniforms adds an unpredictable element to each match.

Social media lit up with cheeky commentary, ranging from inquiries about the durability of the suits to humorous suggestions about whether participants would also sport dress shoes to complete the look. Fans celebrated the creativity, with some even proposing a new division for “street clothes grappling” to bring practical scenarios into the BJJ scene.
