In a viral video circulating on social media, UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley demonstrated why challenging a professional mixed martial artist might not be the wisest decision.
The clip shows O’Malley in a casual conversation with an influencer who confidently claimed he could last 30 seconds against the champion in a grappling exchange. O’Malley, known for his striking prowess in the octagon, humbly suggested it would take him “about 10 seconds” to submit the challenger.
“You gotta give me some respect bro, I got that dog in me,” the influencer Vic Blends insisted, to which O’Malley calmly replied, “We don’t got oxygen in you, it don’t matter what you got in you.”
The subsequent grappling exchange proved O’Malley’s prediction accurate, as he swiftly secured a submission hold within seconds, demonstrating the vast skill gap between professional athletes and enthusiastic challengers.
The outcome shouldn’t come as a surprise to those familiar with O’Malley’s grappling background. “Sugar” Sean trains regularly with ADCC medalist Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes in Arizona and has demonstrated his passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu through various competitions and charitable events.
In fact, O’Malley has previously expressed his deep appreciation for grappling sports, stating, “I enjoy grappling dude, it’s my favorite sport hands down, 100 percent if I quit fig hting today I would still grapple, still jiu-jitsu, still wrestle. I probably wouldn’t box. I would grapple, grappling is something I enjoy so I’m excited.”
The champion has also shown his commitment to using his skills for good causes. In the past, he participated in a competition against an athlete with Down syndrome to support a local gym offering free classes for special needs children. “Doing stuff like that is just priceless, that’s where pure happiness is,” O’Malley had shared about the experience.
While Vic Blends may have underestimated the skill gap between an amateur and a professional athlete, the friendly exchange has garnered significant attention across social media platforms.
