WATCH: Conor McGregor breaks down his BJJ clip amidst backlash for civil trial judgement

Former UFC champion Conor McGregor shared an in-depth analysis of his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training session on social media, demonstrating technical expertise amid recent legal developments that saw him ordered to pay $1.64 million in legal costs following a civil case in Dublin.

McGregor’s detailed breakdown focused on his rolling session with Lee Hammond, a black belt under coach John Kavanagh at SBG Ireland. The Irish martial artist explained various technical aspects of the exchange, including his counter to an x-guard attempt and his utilization of an unconventional knee-on-belly position.

“Partner went for x-guard but without control of my back leg I can, with good balance and composure, step up and over into reverse knee on belly,”

McGregor explained, before discussing his strategic approach to maintaining a dominant position.

The social media post comes as Justice Alexander Owens ruled on the civil case brought by Nikita Hand, which resulted in McGregor being ordered to pay damages of $273,000 last month. The judge determined that Hand should not bear the costs incurred by McGregor’s co-defendant, James Lawrence, who was cleared of allegations.

In his training breakdown, McGregor praised his training partner Hammond, noting their long history: “I have been training with Lee since he was a young teen and I was in my early twenties. I used to open John’s gym on a Sunday, on my own, and word got around the gym that I would do this, and Lee and his friend would be the only other two to show up.”

This might be McGregor’s attempt to curb backlash – which is considerable. Former UFC champ’s PR department completely dropped the ball on his civil lawsuit and his image is perhaps at an all time low in the eyes of many UFC fans across the globe.

The case is scheduled for further discussion at a hearing on January 16, with McGregor’s barrister, Remy Farrell, indicating that an appeal is “highly likely.” Meanwhile, the former champion expressed optimism about his training, concluding his technical breakdown with, “Training is going great out here guys, hoping for some good news to break, God willing!”

McGregor was getting ruthlessly trolled in lead up to his extended reply.
