Brazilian jiu-jitsu prodigy Mica Galvao has revealed his plans to venture into mixed martial arts, marking a potential shift in his competitive career.
The young grappling sensation, who won his BJJ Stars belt in April 2022, shared insights about his future aspirations and current career negotiations through social media.
“Everyone already knows I have an interest in transitioning to MMA,” Galvao stated. “That’s why, even though I still train in the gi daily—because I enjoy it and intend to keep the habit—I no longer train with the goal of competing in organizations that prioritize points or advantages.”
Galvao is currently in talks with multiple platforms regarding his competitive future. He emphasized that while he maintains his gi training routine, his focus has shifted toward submission-oriented competitions that align with his MMA aspirations.
Galvao acknowledged receiving significant proposals from platforms offering exclusive contracts with unprecedented financial terms. “I received proposals from platforms that want exclusivity, offering amounts that I’ve always dreamed of receiving and that could take me to the next level,” he revealed.
The Brazilian athlete maintains that he will entrust the decision about his next career move to his team and divine guidance, as he contemplates this pivotal moment in his professional journey.
Galvao’s full post:
‘I won my @bjjstarsoficial belt in April 2022 and, since then, made it available to BJJ Stars to arrange matches against any athlete, including Nenego. However, from April 2022 until now, BJJ Stars has never succeeded in arranging a title defense match. Not because I didn’t want to, but because they never came with a contract.’
‘Now, at this moment, I did not say I wouldn’t take the match. What I said is that I am in negotiations with several platforms—not just one, but several—and by signing with these platforms, the title defense match would probably not happen. Why? These platforms still don’t hold gi (kimono) matches in their competitions.’
‘Everyone already knows I have an interest in transitioning to MMA. That’s why, even though I still train in the gi daily—because I enjoy it and intend to keep the habit—I no longer train with the goal of competing in organizations that prioritize points or advantages. In MMA, the only thing that really matters is the finish. I keep training but competing in points-based tournaments doesn’t add anything to my future projects.’
‘Sorry if I sound arrogant, but the man who scares me in a jiu-jitsu match, whether in a kimono or without, has not yet been born. Right now I’m looking to embrace the best opportunity for my personal life and negotiating so that this opportunity also makes all my fans happy because you are incredible and I am nothing without you ‘
“I hadn’t spoken about this before, but I’m experiencing a very important moment in my career. I received proposals from platforms that want exclusivity, offering amounts that I’ve always dreamed of receiving and that could take me to the next level. However, these proposals would prevent me from having this long-awaited match.”
“I want to challenge myself and, at the same time, serve the audience that wants to see this match happen. I will leave the decision about which path to follow in God’s hands and my team’s hands. My preference, if this match happens, is that it be without points or advantages, allowing for an open match, where one of us only leaves the mat with a submission.”
