Jeff Glover has come under fire for sending unsolicited direct messages to a practitioner’s wife following what appears to be a disagreement at a seminar.Sophie Fletcher Gilmore, who has never met Glover personally, revealed screenshots of messages she received from the BJJ athlete after he conducted a seminar at her husband’s academy. The messages, which have sparked outrage across social media platforms, included derogatory comments about her appearance and an alarming inquiry about their home security.
“Miss piggy!” read one of the messages from Glover’s account, followed by “You guys have security?” The exchange concluded with Glover claiming her husband “got scared and blocked me” after allegedly speaking up to him.
The incident has raised concerns within the BJJ community about professional conduct at seminars and the safety of participants. Fletcher Gilmore expressed particular worry about Glover’s interaction with women and children at such events, given the nature of his communications.
“It seems very bi zarre to me that a grown man would do this,” Fletcher Gilmore stated, sharing her experience on social media. She emphasized that while she had never interacted with Glover before, he chose to contact her following some apparent disagreement with her husband.
The BJJ community has had a touch and go relationship with Jeff Glover. Glover was a big fan favorite in the previous generation but had squandered away his fans with a series of questionable comments made online over the years. It’s a bit ironic that of all the people, he came the closest to being canceled in BJJ. Glover was released from coaching at PGF during a previous season after fan backlash pointed out his history of questionable comments.
Most recently Glover made waves questioning the legitimacy of some of the older grapplers who get promoted to BJJ Black belt.
Many have expressed solidarity with Fletcher Gilmore, condemning the inappropriate behavior from a respected figure in the sport.
As of publication, Glover has not publicly addressed these allegations. The DMs were first widely publicized on reddit with a number of BJJ practitioners sharing their questionable interactions with Glover.
