Wrestling Community Alleges ‘Take Me Down, Win $1000’ Guy Was Taken Down in This Clip

A viral social media challenge is stirring debate within the wrestling community after footage emerged showing a controversial exchange between two competitors. Georgio Poullas, known for his “$1,000 takedown challenge” series where he offers cash to anyone who can successfully take him down, appears to have been briefly placed on his back in one of his recent videos.

The clip in question shows Poullas, a former state champion wrestler, engaging with a challenger named Joseph. According to observers on social media, Joseph executed what appears to be a foot sweep that put Poullas on his back momentarily before Poullas quickly reversed using a hip heist maneuver.

“If I was the ref, I’d score it as a takedown and then reversal,” commented one wrestling enthusiast on social media. “Joseph literally foot swept Georgio to his back and Georgio had to hip heist to get out.”

The debate highlights the technical nuances of wrestling scoring, with some arguing the brief control shown would constitute a legitimate takedown in competition. However, quick editing cuts in the video make it difficult to determine the exact duration of back exposure.

Poullas has gained significant attention for his challenge series, even attracting high-profile athletes to comment on his skills. UFC bantamweight contender Marlon “Chito” Vera recently acknowledged the difficulty of taking Poullas down in a pure wrestling context.

“I don’t think I can take you down,” Vera told Poullas during a podcast appearance. “I mean it would be easier if I dive under a leg and go for a heel hook… but pure wrestling I know I won’t take you down, that’s a fact.”

The viral nature of Poullas’ challenge continues to generate discussion within combat sports circles, with this latest clip adding another chapter to the ongoing debate about what constitutes a legitimate takedown in his challenge series.
