WATCH: UFC Ref & BJJ Black Belt Mike Beltran Criticizes Police After Two Officers Fail To Detain Single Suspect

In a scathing social media critique that has garnered significant attention online, UFC referee and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Mike Beltran has called out law enforcement officers for what he describes as inadequate physical training and preparation.

Beltran‘s comments accompanied a widely circulated video showing two officers struggling to detain a suspect who can be heard repeatedly saying, “I don’t want to die” during the encounter. The footage shows the officers appearing to have difficulty maintaining control of the situation, with one officer falling to the ground during the attempted detainment.

“The importance of training and being ready. Invest in yourself and train,” Beltran wrote in his post, describing the incident as “Another () episode of ‘Not Fit for the Job.'”

The renowned combat sports official didn’t hold back in his assessment, criticizing what he perceives as a lack of physical readiness among some in law enforcement.

“Sick of hearing cops brag about ‘so many years on the job’ when the only thing they’ve been consistent with is skipping training and stuffing their faces. No accountability. No combatives. No Jiu-Jitsu. No clue,” he stated.

Beltran, known for his expertise in martial arts and his distinctive facial hair in the UFC octagon, emphasized the importance of physical training for officer safety and public protection.

“If you’re not training, you’re not just useless you’re dangerous. A liability to your team, the public, and yourself,” he added, concluding with the stark advice to “Go train or become a meme.”

The post has generated hundreds of comments, with many users echoing Beltran’s sentiments about the need for physical fitness standards in law enforcement. Several commenters questioned current hiring and ongoing physical assessment requirements, with one noting, “There should be some sort of physical fitness requirement to be LEO [Law Enforcement Officer].”

Others in the comment section pointed out that many other professions require regular physical assessments, with one truck driver commenting that they undergo annual physical evaluations despite having a largely sedentary job.

Neither the location nor the date of the incident has been confirmed, and the identities of those involved remain unknown.
