Karate Combat teases Gabi Garcia signing

Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Gabi Garcia may be trading the mats for Karate Combat’s innovative pit, according to recent social media activity that has the combat sports community buzzing with speculation.

The promotion took to Instagram to gauge fan interest.

Garcia herself responded enthusiastically in the comments section, declaring

“Anytime!! Anywhere”

to emphasize her readiness.

Standing 6’2″ and weighing approximately 235 pounds, “The General” brings an intimidating physical presence alongside credentials that make her arguably the most decorated female grappler in history. Her trophy case includes nine IBJJF World Championships at black belt, eleven Pan-American titles, eight Abu Dhabi World Pro Championships and four ADCC World Championships spanning 2013 to 2019. She’s even been inducted into the IBJJF Hall of Fame.

The announcement has generated mixed reactions from fans.

Skepticism emerged from the traditional karate community. One commenter questioned the logic behind the potential signing:

“It is called Karate Combat so why bringing in BJJ specialists when they have their own competitions? She is great in BJJ but I haven’t found any records of her doing karate, just some MMA which shouldn’t legitimize her. She is made for Judo and BJJ not for karate combat…”

Others raised concerns about competitive balance.

“It’s not fair to the female competitors. With all due respect this woman is built like a man,”

wrote one user noting Garcia’s grappling match with Craig Jones and suggesting she could potentially compete in men’s divisions.

Garcia’s MMA experience, while limited, has been thoroughly dominant. Since transitioning to mixed martial arts in 2015 with Japan’s RIZIN, she’s compiled a perfect 6-0 record with one no contest. Every victory came via first-round stoppage, showcasing her ability to translate grappling dominance into finishes. Her last professional appearance occurred in 2018.

Her competitive career hasn’t been without controversy. In 2014 she tested positive for clomiphene and was stripped of her 2013 titles. She maintained an unbeaten streak until 2021 when Nathiely de Jesus handed her a decision loss at Who’s Number One.

Despite the setback Garcia has remained active on the competition circuit, most recently appearing at the CJI Invitational where she demonstrated her continued relevance at the highest levels of grappling.

The potential signing comes as Garcia has already committed to a Thailand promotion for their October 17th 2025 Sabotage event, where she’ll appear alongside MMA veterans Matt Brown, Alex Caceres and Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett. That promotion specializes in unconventional matchups and rule sets, making Garcia’s potential move to Karate Combat’s more structured format particularly intriguing.
