A viral video showing a nineteen year old internet personality being repeatedly submitted during a Brazilian jiu jitsu training session sparked widespread discussion online. According to Tom DeBlass, however, the full story looks very different from what many viewers initially assumed.
The footage, which spread quickly across social media, shows Clavicular, an influencer known for controversial content centered on physical optimization and appearance based theories, tapping multiple times during what appears to be an intense roll at Joel Tudor’s academy in California. Many viewers interpreted the clip as an inexperienced newcomer being mistreated during his first visit to a gym.
DeBlass stepped in to provide context after the video circulated. He explained that Clavicular specifically asked to film the session and approached the roll with a confrontational mindset.
“This kid is an influencer who came into an open mat AND ASKED TO FILM THIS,” DeBlass wrote. “Joel was kind and professional and asked if he wanted to start from the knees. The kid responded, ‘F*ck that. I’m a wrestler. I want to start from the feet.’”
Tudor attempted to accommodate the visitor with a safer, more controlled start. Clavicular declined and insisted on beginning from standing.
Another key detail was the identity of the training partner. The blue belt who submitted Clavicular multiple times was not an unknown enforcer but a personal friend of his, matched with him at Clavicular’s own request. The blue belt is also the owner of Santa Cruz Medicinals.
He later clarified the situation in public comments.
“The influencer is a good dude but he said he wanted something entertaining for stream and to go hard,” he wrote. “Before going ON VIDEO I asked him ‘hey some ppl might wanna go hard on you cause your content is a bit wild I won’t match you up with them.’ He said na I wanna go hard with whoever.”
That clarification reframed the narrative. Rather than a hostile gym environment, the video showed exactly what Clavicular asked for, hard rounds intended to generate engaging content.
DeBlass emphasized why that context matters.
“The person he trained with is a blue belt, and also the influencer’s FRIEND. That context matters. A lot. That’s why this situation looks the way it does.”
The reaction also intersected with Clavicular’s broader online persona. He has drawn attention for overdone approaches to physical transformation, including publicly stating that he began testosterone use at fourteen years old.
“I started with 300 milligrams of testosterone, and I did that for a while up until I was 16,” he previously said.
When asked about fertility consequences, he answered,
“No. None.”
Clavicular has also discussed ongoing testosterone replacement therapy, dutasteride and minoxidil for hair loss, Accutane for what he describes as anti aging purposes and high dose GLP 1 agonists. He has spoken openly about prescription use and plans for extensive cosmetic and orthopedic surgeries, including jaw surgery, facial implants and limb lengthening procedures.
In addition, he has applied appearance based theories to broader social topics, arguing that physical attractiveness can influence outcomes through mechanisms like the halo effect. More recently, he has faced potential legal trouble following a Christmas Eve incident in Miami in which he allegedly struck someone with a Tesla Cybertruck during a livestream. His streaming account was subsequently suspended.
DeBlass framed the jiu jitsu incident as a lesson about conduct inside martial arts spaces.
“Let this be a lesson to anyone chasing clout. Don’t walk into someone else’s academy acting entitled and disrespectful. This isn’t your content farm. This isn’t your stage,” he wrote. “If you want to be welcomed, show humility. If you want respect, earn it.”
The blue belt involved said there was at least one positive outcome.
“The cool thing is after this experience, the influencer has decided to learn Jiu Jitsu and is training with Todd Duffee in Florida,” he shared.
What initially looked like gym aggression turned out to be a case of someone getting exactly what they asked for.
