When a man refused to leave Philip Harker‘s martial arts school, he chose the wrong place to make a stand.
Harker, a black belt and owner of Higher Performance Jiu Jitsu, had warned the man multiple times before calmly putting his training to use. He restrained him without a single punch being thrown, holding him in place until law enforcement arrived.
“I have asked this guy, several times, to get off my business. He chose not to,” Harker said in video he posted to social media. “At some point, when you make that choice, you’ve got to pay the cost.”
The clips, shared to Harker’s page under the handle @phillycheee, showed the black belt holding the man completely under control while waiting for officers to respond. The footage traveled fast across platforms, drawing viewers who recognized exactly what they were watching: precise, disciplined technique applied with measured restraint.
Higher Performance Jiu Jitsu offers classes for both kids and adults in downtown Thomasville and fields a world class competition team. For Harker, what unfolded that day was less about dominance and more about responsibility. He applied only the level of control the situation required, drawing on years of technical training rather than raw force.
Alongside the footage, Harker encouraged people to enroll themselves and their children in a reputable jiu jitsu school, not to go looking for trouble, but to be ready if trouble finds them first.
Harker himself appeared entirely unfazed throughout. “I can do it,” he said. “I’m having a big blast.”
Police arrived and took the man into custody, ending the standoff without injury on either side.
