Chaos erupted at a recent wrestling event when athletes Mohammad Reza Mukhtari and Yuksel Sargijek engaged in a full-blown brawl during their semi-final match. What started as an intense grappling session quickly devolved into punches, kicks, and even headbutts being exchanged.
Video footage shows the wrestlers violently clashing on the mat, with Mukhtari in the blue singlet and Sargijek in red. As the illegal blows continued, the referee attempted to regain control but was powerless to stop the melee.
At one point, Sargijek launched himself through the air, delivering a vicious jump kick towards his opponent. This prompted security to intervene, but it was too late – members of Sargijek’s team had already flooded the arena and were attacking the isolated Mukhtari.
Realizing he was outnumbered, Mukhtari fled as a chaotic scene unfolded around him. Other wrestlers’ matches were interrupted as more people poured into the arena to join the fracas. Referees and security scrambled to separate the combatants and restore order.
Ultimately, the referee made the decision to disqualify both Mukhtari and Sargijek from the tournament due to their unacceptable and violent conduct. As a result, Amin Kavianinejad and Yuksel Sargijek – who had lost earlier rounds – advanced to the semi-finals in their place.
The incident highlights how heated full-contact combat sports like wrestling can become when temperatures flare. While athletic competition can bring out intense emotions, the mass brawl crossed a line of sportsmanlike behavior. Measures may need to be taken to prevent such chaotic scenes from marring future events.
