Conley revealed that toe strength dictates most about health in seniors. And elaborates on how toe strength is the crucial factor for injury prevention.
Danaher emphasized the significance of strengthening the muscles in the feet, particularly the toes. According to Danaher, this often-neglected aspect of training can have a profound impact on overall athletic performance.
In the interview, Danaher highlighted a simple yet effective exercise that he insists all of his athletes do on an almost daily basis: variations of the “toes to bar” exercise. This exercise involves hanging from a bar and lifting one’s toes up to touch the bar, engaging the muscles in the feet and ankles.
“The toes are an incredibly important part of the body,” Danaher explained. “They’re responsible for balance, proprioception, and stability. If you don’t have strong toes, you’re not going to be able to generate power and speed in your movements.”
Danaher’s emphasis on toe strength is rooted in his belief that a strong foundation is essential for optimal athletic performance. “If your toes are weak, your entire athletic development is going to be compromised,” he warned.
The benefits of strengthening the toes extend beyond the realm of athletic performance, however. Weak toes have been linked to a range of musculoskeletal issues, including plantar fasciitis, ankle sprains, and knee problems. By incorporating exercises that target the muscles in the feet, individuals can reduce their risk of injury and improve overall foot health.
