WATCH: British tourists arrested after brawl at Majorca restaurant

A nasty altercation involving British tourists erupted outside a Majorca restaurant, resulting in eight arrests. The incident occurred at around 7:30 PM at the Balneario Illetas beach club restaurant in Calvia, near the popular party resort Magaluf.

The brawl broke out when a group of British party-goers clashed with restaurant staff and fellow holidaymakers. The confrontation quickly escalated, leaving a waiter injured and two police officers hurt. The chaotic scenes involved dozens of people, including waiters in white polo shirts and tourists in swimwear, brawling on the beach.

Local authorities have taken a firm stance against such behavior, emphasizing the need to protect the security of the municipality. A council spokesperson urged tourists exhibiting unruly behavior to visit other destinations.

Footage of the incident shows security guards and restaurant staff struggling to separate the brawlers as reggaeton music played in the background. One video clip captures a woman in a bikini and a security guard being knocked to the ground, while another shows a man in swim shorts being struck from behind.

Onlookers expressed surprise and disbelief at the violent scene, with some filming the brawl on their phones. Bystanders can be heard screaming and making disapproving comments about the behavior of the tourists.

The British tourists were staying in the Son Armadams area and had traveled from Palma. They reportedly began throwing rubbish and cans into the sea, provoking the ire of other beachgoers. The altercation started after a waiter asked them to stop, leading to a violent confrontation with staff and other tourists.

Local police were dispatched to the scene in six units. They found the tourists uncooperative and aggressive. The arrested individuals spent the night at Calvià Local Police headquarters and are expected to be transferred to the Guardia Civil.

A waiter was knocked unconscious after being hit in the head, and seven customers and sunbathers have pressed charges against the British tourists. Calvia’s deputy mayor Esperanza Catala declared that the authorities would be inflexible with individuals who jeopardize the municipality’s security and reputation.

This brawl in Majorca comes amid growing anti-tourism protests on the island. Locals have been increasingly vocal about the disruptions caused by holidaymakers, with around 15,000 people recently protesting in Palma. Demonstrators held placards with slogans such as “tourists go home” and some even heckled foreign visitors during their meals.
