A confrontation at the Spirit Airlines ticket counter at Baltimore Washington International Airport escalated into a violent brawl involving five individuals. The incident resulted in one minor injury, police confirmed on Friday.
A surprising incident was caught on a bystander’s cellphone around 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The footage shows a man in shorts and a hooded sweatshirt approaching several ticket agents in dark-colored Spirit Airlines uniforms with his fists raised.
As the ticket agents appeared ready to engage, a fifth individual wearing a white button-down shirt suddenly entered the frame. He ends up delivering a powerful punch that knocked the initial aggressor off balance. The confrontation escalated as the four ticket agents surrounded the man, ultimately wrestling him to the ground amidst the airline’s rope barriers.
The video was recorded by a bystander. It captures the agents repeatedly hitting the man with their fists and feet, with the videographer audibly cheering on the violent scene.
Once the man was subdued, one of the ticket agents managed to sneak through the group and deliver a final blow to the man’s head. This incident was first reported by TMZ and highlights the brutality of the encounter.
Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police confirmed the incident in an email to The Post. It read: “Officers responded to the Spirit Airlines ticket counters at BWI Marshall Airport for reports of a fight. Officers identified five involved individuals. One individual suffered minor injuries. All involved parties were provided with victims’ rights and services information, including information about filing criminal charges at the local commissioner’s office.”
When asked whether any arrests had been made after the incident, they remained silent.
A spokesperson for Spirit Airlines clarified that the individuals seen in the video were not directly employed by Spirit Airlines but were employees of a vendor working for the airline at BWI.
He stated: “Our vendor has suspended four of their employees involved pending an investigation into the matter. We do not tolerate violence of any kind, and we will take appropriate action as necessary following the completion of the vendor’s investigation.”
This incident is not an isolated case for the airline, which has faced multiple encounters involving passengers and crew. In April, a video surfaced showing a Spirit Airlines worker at a Florida airport shouting obscenities at a passenger during a dispute. Additionally, earlier this month, a Spirit Airlines flight attendant narrowly avoided being attacked while trying to break up a fistfight between two men on a Boston-bound flight.
