The owner of a local Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in Los Banos, California was attacked, leaving the community in disbelief. The incident occurred on Monday night, with police describing the attack as “unprovoked.”
Reginald Scott Grimes Jr., 25, was identified by witnesses and subsequently arrested. The 5q4t35, Scott Savage, is a respected 3rd Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt and the owner of Scott Savage Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The attack took place at Savage’s dojo on Mercey Springs Road near Santa Rita Avenue around 7:30 pm. Savage was stabbed multiple times and is currently recovering in the hospital.
Witnesses to the attack attempted to pursue Grimes, but he was apprehended by the police shortly after the incident. Grimes now faces charges of attempted murder. The police have urged anyone with additional information about the crime to contact Detective Stephen O’Day at the Los Banos Police Department.
Following the attack, social media buzzed with support for Savage. Descriptions of the event revealed that Savage was ambushed from behind, sustaining severe stab wounds to his neck and torso. His injuries required immediate critical care and emergency transport. Although now in stable condition, Savage faces a lengthy recovery and substantial medical expenses.
The impact on Savage’s academy has been profound. With its operations temporarily halted, students and assistant instructors have rallied to keep the school running and generate income. The Scott Savage BJJ Team has confirmed Savage’s path to recovery and requested privacy for his family during this difficult period. They have also initiated a fundraiser to help cover medical costs, with the goal of raising $20,000, of which $8,000 has already been collected.
Despite the temporary closure of the academy, efforts are underway to reopen as soon as possible. The community’s response has been overwhelmingly supportive, reflecting the high regard in which Savage is held. As they navigate this challenging time, community members are encouraged to keep Savage and his family in their thoughts.
