WATCH: Supermodel Irina Shayk submits Talkshow host After Falling in Love with Jiu-Jitsu

Supermodel Irina Shayk has revealed an exciting new addition to her fitness routine – Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The Russian beauty, known for her work with Victoria’s Secret and Intimissimi, has been training in this martial art for several months and is thoroughly enjoying the experience.

“I hate traditional cardio. Running is my worst nightmare,” Shayk confessed. “So I’ve had to find something I enjoy that gets me all the calorie-burning benefits of cardio without boring me to death.”

Enter jiu-jitsu, a discipline that has captured the model’s interest and enthusiasm. Shayk works with her personal trainer four times a week when she’s in New York, focusing on the challenging combinations and moves that keep her body constantly engaged.

“It’s brilliant for constantly challenging my body and pushing it to exhaustion every time,” she explained. The diversity of techniques in jiu-jitsu seems to be the perfect antidote to Shayk’s aversion to monotonous workouts.

But it’s not just about the physical benefits. Jiu-jitsu is also known for its mental challenges and strategic elements, providing a comprehensive workout for both body and mind.

Shayk is not the only model that enjoys BJJ. Mia Kang, a former model turned Muay Thai professional, recently achieved a significant milestone by earning her purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Rafael Domingos at Team Domingos Las Vegas. Kang expressed her gratitude for the support of her coach and teammates, sharing this special moment with her husband, UFC title challenger Khalil Rountree Jr., who was also promoted. Her journey in martial arts began as a way to overcome unhealthy habits, and she has since embraced it as a path for personal growth.

At a recent roast of Tom Brady, comedians took sharp jabs at his personal life, particularly focusing on his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen’s involvement in jiu-jitsu and her rumored relationship with instructor Joaquim Valente. Hart joked about Gisele’s ultimatum for Brady to retire, while both comedians poked fun at her intense jiu-jitsu training and alleged romance with her coach. Gisele, who began training jiu-jitsu in 2021 and earned her purple belt in 2023, has credited the sport with empowering her, though the rumors have fueled the comedic barbs.

Besides these models, actresses Margot Robbie, Scarlet Johanson and Halle Berry also tried BJJ while preparing for specific roles.

When she’s traveling, Shayk doesn’t let her busy schedule interfere with her fitness routine. She incorporates simple barre moves in her hotel room or during work breaks, focusing on exercises that target her arms and glutes while also helping with post-flight water retention.

Shayk’s approach to fitness is refreshingly balanced. While she credits her fast metabolism to “good genes,” she’s quick to point out that maintaining her sculpted physique requires hard work and a good balance between workouts and nutrition.

“I’ve got great genes to thank for my fast metabolism, but I still have to find a balance between food and working out because when I eat, I really eat!” she said. Shayk isn’t afraid to indulge in burgers and cake but balances these treats with clean eating and consistent exercise.
