Former UFC combatant Felipe Colares has passed away at the age of 29 due to a fatal bus accident that occurred in the streets of Guaratiba, a considerable neighborhood located in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The incident took place shortly after the fighter had completed his training session. The Fire Department immediately rendered aid to the victim, and he was promptly transported to Hospital Rocha Faria. Nevertheless, despite their best efforts, Colares was unable to overcome his injuries and eventually passed away during the transit to the hospital, as per the Brazilian news outlet, Globo Esporte.
Rodrigo Babi, Colares’ trainer, disclosed that the martial artist was promptly attended to by the Fire Department. He was then rushed to the hospital. Regrettably, he could not survive his injuries, according to the Brazilian outlet.
Felipe Colares, nicknamed as “Cabocão,” was originally from Ampa, a northern state in Brazil. Colares migrated to Rio with his wife Jaqueline and their 10-month-old son. Colares had a professional record consisting of 11 victories and four defeats, including winning his first eight. In 2017, the South American competitor became the Jungle Fight featherweight champion.
In 2019, Colares joined the UFC and suffered a loss to Geraldo de Freitas in his debut. After enduring back-to-back losses against Chris Gutierrez and Chase Hooper, his time in the UFC came to an end.
Colares also made headlines in January for foiling a robbery attempt earlier this year, using his jiu-jitsu abilities to take down the assailant until law enforcement arrived on the scene.
“I returned to my car and discovered the situation, which turned out to be a robbery. My friends and I then went to the vehicle and identified the man. After realizing he was unarmed, we took action and pinned the perpetrator using jiu-jitsu techniques.”
Felipe Colares leaves behind his beloved wife Jaqueline and his young son, who will undoubtedly feel the impact of his sudden and tragic loss.
