Former UFC champion reacts to botched Jiu-jitsu intervention in conflict at a cafe

There are plenty of benefits of jiu-jitsu in a real life situation. Jiu-jitsu is a martial art that emphasizes grappling and submission holds, which can be useful in self-defense situations where you may need to take an opponent to the ground and immobilize them.

Jiu-jitsu techniques can also help you control an opponent’s movements and force them into submission without causing serious injury, which is ideal in a situation where you may not want to use excessive force.

However, there are also potential drawbacks to using jiu-jitsu in any such situation. For one, many jiu-jitsu techniques require close proximity to your opponent, which can be dangerous if you’re facing multiple attackers or someone with a weapon. Additionally, if you’re not trained to deal with strikes, you may be vulnerable while attempting to execute a jiu-jitsu technique.

In terms of submission attempts, it’s important to remember that the goal of jiu-jitsu is to control and immobilize your opponent, not necessarily to injure them which is why tapping is a big part of a BJJ culture. But tapping could become a conditioned reaction – or your opponent might not even be aware of it. Either way, once you start applying a submission you should at least use it to pin and or control the situation.

Some submission holds can be dangerous if executed improperly or held for too long, which can result in serious injury or even death which is possibly why the BJJ fan in the clip that went viral recently backed out of using BJJ.

The clip went viral and caught the attention of former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman – and current welterweight contender Belal Muhammad.

“Smh should’ve waited for the tap” – Muhammad believed.

Weidman offered an alternative take saying: “After the first punch he should of realized that the mean mugging wasn’t a good defense to punches to the head.”

Another UFC star remarked:
