WATCH: Second ever Tarikoplata in MMA pulled off by Kaillum Leech

The IMMAF European Championships serves as a prestigious platform for emerging talents in amateur mixed martial arts (MMA), showcasing their prowess on an international stage. This year’s event, held in Belgrade, Serbia from April 29 to March 6, witnessed remarkable displays of skill and determination from athletes across Europe.

Two promising Irish contenders took center stage, engaging in a spirited contest that captivated spectators. Despite their status as amateurs, these athletes demonstrated a level of tenacity and technique that rivaled seasoned professionals.

As the bout unfolded, both stars exhibited ferocity, exchanging powerful strikes with unwavering resolve. However, the momentum shifted in the second round, with the blue corner asserting dominance in grappling exchanges. Employing a series of calculated maneuvers, he seized control, subjecting his opponent to relentless pressure and submission attempts.

The defining moment arrived midway through the second round when the blue corner executed a seldom-seen technique known as the tarikoplata. With precision and skill, he immobilized his adversary, eliciting astonishment from spectators and commentators alike. Despite valiant efforts to escape, the red corner succumbed to the excruciating hold, conceding victory to his opponent via submission.

Kaillum Leech also managed to win the golden medal and become the IMMAF Gold Medalist.

Originating from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the tarikoplata is a rare submission maneuver that exploits the opponent’s vulnerability by manipulating their arm and shoulder joints.

This remarkable feat places the Irish amateur athlete among a select few who have mastered this intricate technique in MMA competition. Notably, he follows in the footsteps of Jake Ngai, another Irishman who achieved this feat previously.
