Gordon Ryan provides health update: ‘I’m embarrassingly weak right now’

In a new video documenting his ongoing health issues, submission grappling champion Gordon Ryan gave a candid update on his struggles with a severe stomach condition. The video, titled “Recovering Gordon Ryan,” showed Ryan attempting a light workout after being largely bedridden for the past two months due to a relapse of his chronic stomach problems.

“I’m embarrassingly weak right now. It’s pathetic,” Ryan said during the workout, his first in months. “What is it that you’re feeling something, you know? Divorces, but when you’re not even able to step on a gym, that’s when you know it’s really bad.”

Ryan revealed he has lost over 20 pounds, dropping down to 208 pounds, as he has been unable to eat or drink for extended periods due to nausea and vomiting triggered by his condition. The 28-year-old said at one point he went 10-12 days without eating anything.

The video showed Ryan struggling through a light weightlifting routine, with his coach closely monitoring his condition. Ryan had to take multiple breaks, looking drained and pale at times.

“I can tell he’s not feeling good, and he’s getting more pale as we go,” Danaher said. “If I increase the intensity, it will be done for the day.”

Ryan first developed severe stomach issues in 2020 after a battle with recurring staph infections led to him taking high doses of oral antibiotics that disrupted his gut bacteria. He has tried various protocols involving antifungals, probiotics, and dietary supplements to recover, but continues to face major setbacks.

Despite the challenges, Ryan remains determined and appreciative of his fans’ support. As he said in the video, “All jokes aside, guys, thank you all so much for the support. I love all of my fans and haters alike, and without you guys, I wouldn’t be here.”
