Khabib Nurmagomedov famously made headlines when he donned a white belt at a Jiu-Jitsu academy in Dubai.
This striking move despite his stature as a UFC champion and a world-renowned Sambo champion holding a black belt in Judo, showcases his profound respect for the unique ethos of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
It’s also a far cry from his early career jibe at BJJ.
Khabib’s choice to sport a white belt underscores his humility and acknowledgment of his beginner status in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Despite his iconic background in various combat sports, he humbly embraces the role of a student in BJJ.
Khabib went on to release an intstructional through a BJJ site in 2021. The instructional had a mixed reception.
The Honest Review of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s DVD “Sambo: The Top Game – A Blueprint For ‘Smeshing'” provides a critical assessment of the instructional content. Despite Khabib’s success as an MMA coach, the review highlights several shortcomings of the DVD.
While the instructional content covers takedowns and grappling techniques, it is primarily aimed at beginners in MMA, with limited applicability to experienced grapplers. The review suggests that much of the content can be found for free on YouTube, making the premium price tag of $200 hard to justify.
Despite Khabib’s expertise in grappling, the DVD lacks in-depth analysis and fails to offer significant value beyond basic principles. Additionally, the production quality is criticized for its clumsiness and lack of professionalism, further detracting from the overall viewing experience.
After the release of the DVD, Nurmagomedov pivoted away from instructionals and went on to try his hand at crypto promotion.
After retiring from MMA, and traveling to coach his club members he took part in a Judo club named Paris St Germain.
At the club, Nurmagomedov proudly wore a Judo black belt.
Nurmagomedov is currently enjoying his retirement from MMA. He still trains however he’s taking a step back from the public life to dedicate himself to business and his family.
